2020 is the 14 year anniversary of the Governor’s Cup. This tournament is growing each year and early indications are that this year’s event will fill up fast! It is held in November each year, when Norfolk’s enjoys some of it’s best weather. It is structured differently to our other tournaments, being a pairs event held over three days. While the main focus of the week is to have fun out on the course, there will still be strong competition with a huge prizes on offer.

Day one – Tuesday is a 4 Ball Best Ball Stableford, Day two – Wednesday is a 2 Person Ambrose and Day three – Thursday is a 4 Ball Aggregate Stableford. Teams are awarded points based on where they finish amongst the field on each day’s play (e.g. if there are 50 teams of 2 players then the team that wins will collect 25 points, the team that comes second will collect 24 points……the team that comes 24th will win 2 points and the rest will collect 1 point). This unique point structure, along with the three different games, gives teams of all different handicap levels a realistic chance of winning. It has also traditionally been very close on the last day, which makes for some exciting golf.
The week starts on Monday with a welcome dinner, held at Governor’s Lodge Resort, the tournament’s major sponsor. There is a cocktail welcome hour and delicious full buffet dinner, all included in the tournament’s entry fee.
The golf is held over the next three days with daily presentations held at Norfolk Island Golf Club on Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Following the golf on Thursday, the daily and overall gala presentation dinner will be held at Governor’s Lodge Resort. A three-course alternate drop menu is included in the entry fee and a great night of laughs and new friends is guaranteed.
